In August we began our search for amazing photography to feature in our “Volume 3” brochure. The idea of launching a competition for students came about in the hope to make Volume 3 a unique piece centred around London. We decided to collaborate with London universities, particularly University of East London.
Minna Kantonen, Photographer Tutor at University of East London made a special effort to include the brief as part of the student’s coursework. Students were required to submit work based on the theme ‘My London’ which inspired submissions such as ‘My opportunities’, ‘Messy London’ and ‘A Part of Something’.
The requirements for entries were quite simple, we asked students to provide high resolution images which supported the theme. Students were also asked to provide some narrative as to why they chose the image and what it meant to them. The entries were then judged by industry experts, Jane Scherbaum – Deputy Head of Design for the V&A Museum, Chris Church – Creative Director for Bravado, Phil Dias – Creative Director for Karma Creative and our wonderful in-house Senior Designer Lucia Reid.
We held the presentation in our Shoreditch office on 24th November 2017 where the runners up received a printed copy of “Volume 3”. Massive congratulations to Naomi Angelique Govinden! Her piece titled ‘My London’ was the winning entry which showed a man asleep on a busy London train. Naomi explained how this man represented London on a whole and received a cash prize of £250 as well a framed copy of her piece which will feature as the front cover image for “Volume 3”.
The competition was a huge success and the students that participated all enjoyed their evening. Mina had this to say reflecting on the evening, “so great to see the Volume 3 on Friday! We are very pleased to see our students work in the volume and the beautiful cover. Thank you for working with us on the project!”
We would like to thank everyone who took part and was involved in inspiring and producing this amazing piece… VOLUME 3!
